Ankita Singh
Ankita Singh is a writer, documentary director and award-winning theatre producer raised between Chandigarh and Kirikiriroa. She can trace her ancestry to the Himalayan hill station of Ranikhet, Aligarh and pre-partition Lahore in Punjab.
Not long after completing her Master's in Screenwriting from AUT University, Ankita won the 2021 Piki Pitch. Her half-hour action-comedy GIVE ME BABIES has been nominated for Best Comedy at the TVNZ Awards.
She debuted as a playwright with her neo-noir action-comedy play BASMATI BITCH, making history as the first South Asian female playwright to be commissioned in New Zealand by Auckland Theatre Company, NZ's largest theatre company. The play premiered at Q Rangatira in 2023 - the season was extended twice due to popular demand.
She is currently directing a documentary about the world-leading Dunedin Longitudinal Study for TVNZ and working on her next play RABID - a magic-realist horror set in the foothills of the Himalayas.
